National Day of Civic Hacking in Milwaukee

Milwaukee, WI – May 16, 2015
On June 6, 2015, Milwaukee Data Initiative leads a oneday civic hacking event dedicated to improving Milwaukee in coordination with local businesses, nonprofits, and government at the Radio Milwaukee Community Room. A part of Code for America’s National Day of Civic Hacking, Milwaukee Data Initiative (MDI) is cohosting an eighthour hackathon at 220 E Pittsburgh Ave. with 88nine Radio Milwaukee, The Mandel Group, Red Arrow Software, Brenner Brewing, DreamMKE, Bucketworks and SmartWave.Radio Milwaukee and Mandel Group are partnering to offer an inspiring workspace in Radio Milwaukee's Community Room for community groups and small businesses to gather, converse, and build stronger alliances within the innovative neighborhood of Walker’s Point. Representatives from the City of Milwaukee, local businesses, and nonprofits will be on site to provide knowledge and expertise while individuals with a nontechnical backgrounds are sought to bring realworld experience on topics such as Public Health & Safety, Education, and Mapping. Software developers from Red Arrow Labs will be volunteering to lead teams on specific goals and individuals and students are invited to bring their own ideas to collaborate on. A closing presentation allows each team to present their work to local business, nonprofits and governance so the work can continue yearround. Finally, the day concludes with an afterparty and networking event at Brenner Brewing, 706 S 5th St, Milwaukee WI 53204.
